Gemini in Google Forms is Google's AI helper inside Forms on a computer. It can draft a new survey or quiz from a prompt with Help me create a form, summarize open text answers on the Responses tab, group common themes into a Sheet, and, since Google's November 5, 2026 Workspace Updates post, run Actionable insights that analyze every question type, spot correlations, and suggest next steps. Creation and analysis need an eligible Google Workspace or Google AI plan, Actionable insights is still rolling out, and quiz mode blocks some of the analysis tools.

This guide covers who can use each feature, the step by step for creating a form and reading responses, the response count minimums Google lists, and what to do if you only have a free Google account. Every claim was checked against Google's help pages and the Workspace Updates post on November 6, 2026. We have not run these features on our own account, so treat the steps as Google documents them.

What's new: Actionable insights (November 2026)

Forms already had Gemini for drafting surveys and for summarizing text answers. The November update adds a broader analysis pass.

Google says Actionable insights:

  • Opens from the Responses tab with a Generate insights button.
  • Analyzes all response types, not only open text.
  • Writes and runs Python against your response data so counts, percentages and comparisons stay grounded in the answers you collected.
  • Spots patterns and how answers on one question relate to answers on another.
  • Returns an executive synthesis, a deeper analysis section, and recommended next steps.

Google's examples are event and product feedback, research surveys, and registration or application forms. Android Authority covered the same launch on November 5, 2026 and notes the gradual rollout can take up to 15 days to appear.

Rollout pace from the Workspace Updates post:

  • Rapid Release domains: gradual rollout started November 2, 2026.
  • Scheduled Release domains: gradual rollout starts November 19, 2026.

Who can use Gemini in Google Forms

Google lists these plans for Actionable insights:

Account typePlans that get Actionable insights
BusinessBusiness Standard, Business Plus
EnterpriseEnterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus
EducationEducation Plus; Google AI Pro for Education; Teaching and Learning
Personal Google accountGoogle AI Pro, Google AI Ultra

For personal accounts, Google AI Pro costs $19.99 a month or $199.99 a year in the US and includes Gemini in Google apps. Google AI Plus ($4.99 a month) is not on the Actionable insights availability list. Admins need smart features and personalization turned on for Gemini in the side panel of Workspace apps.

Help me create a form and the older response summaries also need an eligible Workspace or Google AI plan, per Google's create a form with Gemini and summarize and analyze responses help pages. Both pages also mention Google Workspace Experiments as a tester route. Creation is documented for desktop; Experiments and Gemini Beta users can also use creation on Android and iOS.

If you write in Docs or Slides more than Forms, see our guides to Gemini in Google Slides and editing files in the Gemini app. Students who need study notes from readings rather than surveys should look at Gemini Notebook in our NotebookLM study guide.

How to create a form with Gemini

Google's help page walks through this flow on a computer:

  1. Open a new form in Google Forms.
  2. In the window that opens, describe the form, or click Help me create a form in the toolbar. You can also shuffle suggested prompt tiles for ideas.
  3. Write a clear prompt. Google's example: "Create a simple RSVP form for a neighborhood potluck, collecting name, allergy info, and what dish they'll bring."
  4. Optional (Experiments and Gemini Beta only): click Add sources and choose Drive, Chat, the web, Gmail, or specific Docs, Sheets, Slides and PDF files.
  5. Click Create.
  6. Review the draft. Edit the prompt and click Recreate if you want another version. Google warns that after you create a new version, you cannot go back to the previous one.
  7. When the draft looks right, click Create form.

Prompts that match Google's own samples:

  • "Design a post event survey to collect attendee feedback on a business networking event."
  • "Design a form to collect data on exercise habits and fitness goals of adults."
  • "Create an event planning form for a weekend yoga retreat. Include options for accommodation preferences, dietary restrictions, and interest in optional add on activities."

Google also says Gemini can draft a quiz from a prompt, mark correct answers, assign points, and mix multiple choice, checkbox, grid, short and long answer questions. After you create a quiz, you can show the answer key, edit questions, or ask for more suggested questions. Publish when you are ready, then manage who can respond.

Limits on creation from Google:

  • Help me create cannot update quiz settings or build forms with multiple sections.
  • Using Help me create on an existing form replaces that form with the generated one. It does not edit in place.
  • Always read every question, option and point value before you share the form. Google says Gemini can suggest inaccurate information.

How to summarize text answers

Once people have answered open text questions, Gemini can summarize each question on the Responses tab.

  1. Open the form on a computer and click Responses.
  2. In the summary block, summaries for each text question generate automatically when you have enough answers.
  3. Optional: click Retry for a new summary, or Copy to paste it elsewhere.
  4. If new answers arrive while the summary is open, click Refresh with latest responses.

Rules Google lists for text summaries:

  • You need 3 to 200 responses for generated summaries.
  • Summaries are not available for quiz responses.
  • Summaries are not saved. Copy them or generate them again later.
  • Direct questions such as names and addresses do not get summaries.

How to group themes in a Sheet

For open text questions with enough answers, Gemini can label themes and open a Sheet with a pie chart and theme counts.

  1. On the Responses tab, scroll to a text question.
  2. Below the summary, click See theme percentages.
  3. Optional: click Modify themes to add or delete categories.
  4. Click See theme percentages again for a deeper Sheet view. If Sheets shows an error, use Refresh and Generate in the Sheets side panel.

Google says this works best with 8 to 200 responses. If the form has more than 200 responses, theme generation becomes unavailable and the button is grayed out. If the count is 8 or fewer, or over 500, Google says the summary can still show while the theme button stays grayed out. Themes use AI functions in Sheets, so Sheets AI limits apply.

How to run Actionable insights

This is the November 2026 feature for whole form analysis.

  1. Open the form on a computer and click Responses.
  2. Find the Actionable Insights section.
  3. Click Generate insights.
  4. Review the output. Click Analysis steps to see the executive synthesis, advanced analysis and correlations, and recommended next steps.
  5. Optional: mark Good suggestion or Bad suggestion, or click Retry for a new pass.

Hard requirements from Google's help page:

  • The form must have at least 12 responses and 3 questions.
  • Actionable insights is not available when Quiz settings are turned on.
  • It is not available if the form has a linked sheet that you cannot access.

Google's Workspace Updates post adds that Gemini grounds numbers by writing and running Python on the response data. That is useful when you want percentages and comparisons instead of a vague paragraph, but you should still spot check a few raw answers before you act on a recommendation.

Is Gemini in Google Forms free?

The Gemini features inside Forms need a paid Workspace edition or Google AI Pro or Ultra. There is no free Actionable insights tier on a plain personal Google account.

Free or lower cost routes for related work:

  • Build the survey questions yourself in free Google Forms, then paste responses into the free Gemini app or ChatGPT and ask for themes. You lose the in place Responses tab tools and the Python grounded analysis.
  • Join Google Workspace Experiments if Google offers the tester program on your account.
  • For study surveys that feed a paper, collect answers in Forms, export the Sheet, and use research tools covered in best AI tools for research paper writing and our best AI tools for students guide.
  • For drafting related Docs or decks after you have insights, use Gemini in Docs or Gemini in Google Slides on the same paid plan.

Do not invent a free Forms AI toggle. If Help me create or Generate insights is missing, the usual causes are plan, rollout timing, quiz mode, too few responses, or a linked sheet you cannot open.

Who should use it

Use Gemini in Google Forms if you already pay for Business Standard or higher, Education Plus, or Google AI Pro, and you run feedback forms, class quizzes, registration forms or research surveys in Google Workspace. Creation saves time on the first draft. Text summaries help when answers are long. Actionable insights helps when you have enough responses to justify a full pass and you want recommended next steps without building charts by hand.

Pick another path if you only send a form a few times a year and do not want a subscription, if your form is a quiz that must stay in quiz mode for grading, or if your data must stay in a tool that is not Google. In those cases, draft questions by hand or with Claude, keep grading in Forms quiz mode without Gemini analysis, and export the Sheet for analysis elsewhere.

FAQ

How do I use Gemini in Google Forms?

On a computer, open a new form and use Help me create a form to draft questions from a prompt. After people respond, open Responses for text summaries, theme percentages and, when your plan and rollout include it, Generate insights. Eligible Workspace or Google AI plans are required.

What is Gemini Forms Actionable insights?

It is Google's November 2026 analysis feature. From the Responses tab, Gemini reviews answers across question types, looks for trends and correlations, and suggests next steps. Google says it writes and runs Python on your response data so the numbers stay tied to the answers.

Is Gemini in Google Forms free?

No. Actionable insights needs Business Standard or Plus, Enterprise Standard or Plus, Education Plus or the listed education AI add ons, or Google AI Pro or Ultra. Help me create and response summaries also need an eligible plan. Free Google Forms still works without Gemini.

Why don't I see Generate insights?

Common reasons: the rollout has not reached your domain yet, your plan is not on the availability list, the form has fewer than 12 responses or fewer than 3 questions, Quiz settings are on, or a linked sheet exists that you cannot access. Rapid Release started November 2, 2026. Scheduled Release starts November 19, 2026.

Can Gemini create a quiz in Google Forms?

Yes. Help me create can draft a quiz, mark correct answers and assign points. You can show the answer key and edit questions before you publish. Actionable insights and some response summaries do not work on quiz forms, so keep creation and grading separate from whole form insights.

Does Gemini in Google Forms work on my phone?

Help me create is documented for desktop for most users. Google says Experiments and Gemini Beta users can also create forms on Android and iOS. The response analysis help page describes the computer flow. If you need mobile drafting today, use the desktop site or draft offline and paste into Forms later.
